Differing slightly from other Cladosporium species, C. sphaerospermum tolerates cooler, low-light environments, making it a candidate for growth in refrigerators, basements, or poorly lit bathrooms. Colonies appear dark and can be powdery. Inhalation of spores can lead to symptoms akin to allergic rhinitis or worsening asthma. Regularly cleaning high-humidity areas and ensuring adequate lighting can diminish its establishment.
