Unlike the acute invasive form, chronic pulmonary aspergillosis evolves gradually over months to years in individuals with underlying lung diseases (e.g. prior tuberculosis, COPD). It may form a “fungus ball” (aspergilloma) in existing cavities. Symptoms include coughing, weight loss, fatigue, and occasional haemoptysis. Treatment involves long-term antifungal medications and monitoring for complications such as progressive lung damage.
