Rare but serious, fungal keratitis can occur if mould (e.g. Fusarium or Aspergillus) contaminates contact lenses or lens solution. Symptoms include eye pain, redness, blurred vision, and light sensitivity. Without prompt treatment (antifungal eye drops, possible surgery), corneal scarring or vision loss may result. Proper lens hygiene and avoiding exposure to contaminated water or surfaces are crucial preventive measures.
