Known colloquially as a “dairy mould,” G. candidum can spoil milk, soft cheeses, and other high-moisture foods. Colonies typically appear white and yeast-like, often producing a fruity smell. In a home, it may appear in chronically damp kitchens or bathrooms. Although not highly pathogenic, it can affect immunocompromised individuals. Keeping food storage areas clean and dry, and promptly discarding spoiled items, is crucial for control.
