Generally lighter in appearance compared to other Alternaria species, A. infectoria commonly targets cereal grains and flour storage. In domestic environments, any area with prolonged dampness near stored grains (e.g. pantries) may support its growth. Inhalation of spores can lead to respiratory irritation, especially in those who are sensitive. Keeping dry storage conditions and discarding mouldy grains or flour promptly are vital preventive measures.
