Similar to C. globosum in habitat and appearance, C. elatum produces dark perithecia that can be observed with a microscope. Found on wet paper, wood, or insulation, it can also disperse spores into indoor air, potentially triggering breathing difficulties in sensitive individuals. Thorough drying and repairs of compromised structures prevent further colonisation.
