A white-rot fungus that degrades lignin in hardwoods, P. radiata is often seen in forests on logs but can move indoors if wooden structures remain persistently wet. White, fibrous mycelium can gradually undermine the wood’s strength. Drying out the wood, reducing humidity, and replacing severely compromised timber are necessary steps if this fungus is discovered within a structure.
