In the 1990s, some reports linked severe pulmonary bleeding in infants to household mould (particularly Stachybotrys chartarum). Subsequent reviews have questioned the strength of that link, yet mould in a baby’s environment is still considered a potential risk factor for respiratory distress. Maintaining clean, dry indoor conditions is recommended, especially where infants or young children are present.
